Planning to study at TAFE NSW in 2027? A scholarship could reduce your tuition bill, but the most useful question is whether your course, academic record and budget make you a suitable applicant.
This guide explains the currently advertised international scholarships for Semester 1, 2027, what to check before applying, and how to prepare a course enquiry that helps you move towards an informed decision.

What TAFE NSW international scholarships are available for 2027?
TAFE NSW’s international scholarship page currently advertises these options for Semester 1, 2027:
| Scholarship | Advertised benefit | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Higher education scholarship | 15% tuition credit each semester | Merit assessment applies; course eligibility must be checked |
| Selected higher education courses | AUD 1,000 tuition credit | These courses are excluded from the 15% option |
| Selected vocational courses | AUD 500 tuition credit | Available only for selected courses; assessed on merit |
These are tuition credits, not a promise of fully funded study. Do not assume every diploma attracts the same award: check the exact qualification and scholarship category.

Who should consider applying?
The July 2026 application form requires at least 75% academic achievement for the 15% higher education scholarship. Approved courses or packages must meet its minimum one-year duration rule. English-only students and students packaged with ELICOS are excluded. Continuing students within an existing package are also excluded; higher education awards have a new-student requirement.
Scholarships are limited and assessed on merit. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee an award. Read the current form against your individual circumstances.

Before asking which scholarship is largest, ask three practical questions:
- Does this course support my next career step? Write down the role or further qualification you want and explain how the course helps you reach it.
- Am I academically and linguistically ready? Use your actual results, rather than estimating your eligibility from another student’s experience.
- Can I proceed if I receive no scholarship? Make a base budget without an award, then treat a confirmed scholarship as a reduction.
A course that fits your goals and finances is a stronger starting point than choosing a qualification solely for a discount.
How much would you still need to pay?
Here is a hypothetical calculation, not a TAFE NSW course quote:
| Item | Illustration in AUD |
|---|---|
| Eligible tuition for one semester | 15,000 |
| 15% scholarship credit, if awarded | 2,250 |
| Tuition remaining for that semester | 12,750 |
The calculation is eligible tuition × 0.15 = scholarship credit. It does not reduce every expense by 15%.
Build your budget around tuition, accommodation, food, transport, health cover, travel and any course-specific expenses. TAFE NSW separately identifies non-tuition costs; use its international fees and costs information alongside your course quote.
For your own planning, record:
- The full course fee and initial payment required.
- Your available savings and any confirmed sponsor support.
- Your expected monthly living budget in the campus location.
- Extra costs associated with your chosen qualification.
- The amount you could pay without relying on a scholarship outcome.
If your plan only works with a guaranteed award, raise that early with your counsellor before committing to an application.
Check the course before checking the discount
TAFE NSW sets academic and English requirements by course. Some qualifications also require additional evidence, such as a portfolio or assessment. Verify the international entry requirements and the individual course page.
When comparing options, put the following details side by side:
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact qualification and course code | Similar titles can describe different qualifications |
| Available campus and intake | Your preferred location and start date must match an available offering |
| Academic and English requirements | These determine whether you are ready to apply |
| Tuition and additional expenses | The scholarship alone does not show the total cost |
| Placement or attendance expectations | These affect your weekly schedule and preparation |
| Further-study arrangements, if relevant | Confirm the actual pathway before planning around it |
For example, a student interested in IT should first decide what skills and qualification they need. The scholarship review follows that course choice. The same approach applies to other study areas: begin with the educational outcome, then compare suitable options and costs.
How to prepare your TAFE NSW scholarship application
Start with a course application and prepare the separate scholarship form. The scholarship form asks for academic records, English proficiency evidence and relevant supporting achievements. It includes a 150-word statement about achievements, extracurricular involvement, leadership and awards.
Make each sentence specific. Instead of saying you are a “passionate leader”, describe an activity you organised, your responsibility and its result. Use achievements you can support with evidence.
The advertised deadline is 5pm AEST on the course commencement date in your offer letter. Submit early and confirm the deadline with TAFE NSW, particularly if you are applying from another time zone.

For the course application, TAFE NSW lists certified passport, academic and English-result copies, with additional documents where applicable. Non-English documents need official certified translations. Students already in Australia may need visa, previous CoE and health-cover records. Check the current application instructions for your circumstances.
What to send Edugate for a useful assessment
You do not need a finished scholarship essay for your first enquiry. Send a clear summary:
- Your nationality and current country of residence.
- Your preferred study area or exact course.
- Your intended intake and preferred location.
- Your highest qualification, completion year and grades.
- Your English test name, date and scores, or your testing plan.
- Your approximate tuition budget and source of funding.
- Your career goal and any relevant work experience.
If you are already studying in Australia, mention your current course and visa status. Provide documents through the channel your counsellor confirms; avoid posting personal records in public comments.
Edugate can help you compare course options, review the information needed for an application and check the published scholarship criteria against your study plan. TAFE NSW makes the admission and scholarship decisions.
Request your TAFE NSW course and scholarship assessment. In the message field, write “TAFE NSW 2027” and include your course interest, grades, English score and budget.

Frequently asked questions
Are TAFE NSW international scholarships fully funded?
The internal awards listed here provide partial tuition support. Budget separately for the remaining tuition and living expenses.
Does a 75% academic result guarantee the 15% scholarship?
No. The threshold is one eligibility condition; course suitability, the remaining terms and merit assessment still apply.
Can I apply if I need English study first?
The current form excludes ELICOS-only students and students packaged with ELICOS. Ask for a review of your proposed course structure before relying on scholarship eligibility.
Can I use the scholarship for any TAFE NSW diploma?
Do not assume so. Confirm whether the exact diploma is vocational or higher education and whether it falls within an eligible course list.
Is the scholarship the right reason to choose TAFE NSW?
Use it as part of your financial comparison. Choose the course because its content, entry requirements, location and educational outcome suit your goals.
